Case Study: Epilepsy (Seizure Disorder)

Patient Information:

  • Name: Michaela Rodrigues
  • Diagnosis: Cerebral Palsy with Secondary Dystonia
  • Date of Birth (D.O.B): August 1, 2000
  • Gender: Female
  • Country: Australia

Treatment: Physiotherapy combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine and Physical Therapy

History:
The historical account describes premature birth; the gestational timing requires source verification. Due to overexposure to oxygen and steroids during her early life, some of her neurons were damaged and not fully functional. She was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy with Secondary Dystonia and admitted to Beijing Puhua International Hospital for Physiotherapy.

Medical Condition Before Treatment:

  • Michaela had a weak trunk and midline, requiring support to maintain an upright position.
  • Her speech was slow and slurred.
  • Neck rotation had limited flexibility despite no apparent limitations in movement.
  • Hands and legs exhibited locking and spasms, particularly on the right side.
  • Muscle tone was increased, especially in the lower limbs.
  • She could hardly raise her arms spontaneously and struggled to cooperate during muscle strength examinations.
  • Tendon reflexes were active in upper limbs and hyperactive in lower limbs.

Treatment Course:
Michaela underwent Physiotherapy for 24 days. The treatment plan included a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Physical Therapy techniques aimed at improving her motor function, flexibility, and overall health.

Post-Treatment Updates:

  • Michaela's father, Christopher Rodrigues, shared that Michaela has shown significant improvement after the Physiotherapy.
  • He expressed gratitude towards the medical team but emphasized the importance of parents understanding their child's needs and not feeling intimidated by medical advice.
  • Michaela can now intentionally touch her iPad using her finger, sit independently in bed with arm support, and has shown overall improved motor function.

Father's Statement:
Christopher Rodrigues stated, "We are over the moon about the improvement in our precious daughter's condition... We 'Highly Recommend All Parents Raising A Child With A Disability To Investigate Physiotherapys. They Have To Give Their Child A Chance!"
