Case Study: Epilepsy (Seizure Disorder)

Patient Information:

  • Name: Veronika Gering
  • Diagnosis: Epilepsy (Seizure Disorder) and Cerebral Palsy (CP)
  • Date of Birth (D.O.B): March 10, 2019
  • Gender: Female
  • Country: Kazakhstan

Treatment: Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery for Cerebral Palsy & Epilepsy (Functional Stereotaxy) with Daily Intravenous (IV) Neurological Nutritional Support and Rehabilitation Training

History:
Veronika Gering, a 3-year-old girl from Kazakhstan, was admitted to Beijing Puhua International Hospital due to delayed development in speech, mobility, and aptitude, accompanied by epilepsy.

Medical Condition Before Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery:

Prior to receiving the minimally invasive brain surgery for cerebral palsy & epilepsy:

  • Veronika could not speak but only vocalize sounds like 'hum' or 'ah'.
  • She had increased muscular tone in all limbs, particularly in the flexor muscle groups of her upper limbs and extensor muscle groups of her lower limbs. Her arms and legs were therefore less flexible.
  • She was experiencing seizures/epilepsy.

Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery for Cerebral Palsy & Epilepsy:

After admission, Veronika underwent several medical protocols including:

  • Stereotactic brain procedure
  • Medication to improve cerebral circulation, nutrition, and metabolism
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
  • Rehabilitation training

Physical Condition After Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery for Cerebral Palsy & Epilepsy:

Following 24 days of minimally invasive brain surgery for cerebral palsy:

  • Veronika's general condition improved.
  • Her vital signs were stable, with good sleep pattern and appetite.
  • She showed increased responsiveness to pain and sound stimuli.
  • Her neck tone improved, and muscular tone in her limbs was more normal, especially in her legs.
  • Physical therapists observed more potential for her to walk independently.
  • The frequency of seizure attacks significantly decreased compared to before the surgery.
